On May 21st, 2025, from 11:00 to 11:20 AM, Anshuman Agrawal, Founder and Managing Director of Minimac Systems, delivered a technical presentation titled, “Preventing Premature Wear: The Critical Role of Oil Flushing in Pre-Commissioning”
This session shed light on the frequently neglected but major pre-commissioning process known as oil flushing, a cleaning methodology designed to get rid of contaminants like rust, weld slag, and debris from new machinery, pipelines and equipment before commissioning. Drawing on real-world case studies and deep technical insight, the presentation addressed the process and principles of oil flushing and key benefits, including performance improvements and prolonged equipment lifespan. It also examined the consequences of neglect and best practices for ensuring efficiency and effectiveness. With a rising focus on machinery reliability and proactive maintenance, this presentation was all set to deliver critical takeaways for professionals in tribology, lubrication engineering, plant commissioning, and reliability management.
“Oil flushing is often treated as a checklist item, but in reality, it’s the first line of defence against premature wear and catastrophic failures. We've seen how neglecting it, even by a few degrees in temperature or a drop in flow velocity, can cascade to long-term damage. In my experience, ensuring turbulent flow, precise viscosity control, and adherence to global standards like ISO 23309
and ASTM D6439 is a must. This is the core of risk prevention, reliability assurance, and responsible engineering,” informed Mr Anshuman Agrawal. He further added, “It was a privilege to present our work at STLE and even more fulfilling to connect with peers who truly understand the challenges and opportunities in our field.
